Empowering Market Solutions…Overcome The Pitfalls Of The Press Release

In today’s techno-charged world full of all types of marketing solutions such as mass email,  blogs, websites, affiliate marketing, and pay-per-click advertising, there are still other  ways to get your message out with a big splash.  One of these is through a press release.  For years, press releases were done through the newspaper, TV, radio, and word of mouth.  Nowadays you can do a press release via the internet on your blog or website.  If you do  this with the assistance of key words and tags, you can create a strong presence with the  search engines.

This concept is overlooked on a frequent basis, as most small businesses do not have an “in-house” PR staff…the end result being that they just do not get written.  The lack of  press releases just means that you are really losing out on a potentially good source of  revenue generation.

What to write…Not knowing what to write about and how to write it is a perennial problem with many small businesses.  I do not recommend writing it yourself unless you have at least moderate background in writing.  Do you have someone in your office who has a marketing background that could create the press release?  If not, then paying a professional copywriter is highly encouraged.  They know what to write, how to write, as well as how to format the release…a key point.  They can help you decide what would be considered  “newsworthy”…something that would catch the editor’s eye…Something like a promotion, a transfer of a highly placed key employee, the closing of a large contract, etc…You get the picture…this is very Empowering.

How often should press releases be written?  Opinion vary on this subject…some experts feel that there should be consistent releases.  Others feel that the releases should be more random.  I believe that either is fine because the most important aspect is content.  Relevant content is king!  this applies not only to your blogs, but also to your press releases.  If you start out with 5-6 press releases per year and let it grow, as long as they are being released and published, you can drive market share.  It is important to note that when you do a release, you should also utilize the more traditional routes as well.  Use your local newspaper, relevant publications, and if you get the opportunity either TV or radio.  Make sure that your press release is posted on your website or blog.  It is a good idea to keep a page set aside specifically for press releases.

Another Empowering tool is to submit your press releases to PRweb.com and PRleap.com, as they will host your releases electronically.  The more viral your release,  the more Empowered your content will become…
