It has been reported that many chronic diseases have their roots embedded in long standing emotional trauma. Is there a way to over come this…to bring back ones health? This is probably one of the single most important part of the 10 aspects to optimal health.
Trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder is the emotional “shock” after a life-threatening, violent event. The effects of which may be immediate or take time to surface, and can be felt for the duration of ones life. Cause can range from disaster, abuse, rape, witnessing a violent event, the turmoil of war, or spending time with people who are traumatized.
Trauma means getting “stuck in the memory” of a life-threatening event. Our bodies and minds act like the event is still happening…right before our eyes. Unfortunately this is a wound that usually cannot heal just by passing the time of day. It can keep a grip on us for many years. Some people equilibrate trauma with stress. Both are normal reactions to an abnormal situation and both will cause your nervous system to prepare to take action of some sort… the “fight or flight” response. With a stressful situation, your central nervous system is briefly impacted, but naturally returns to balance within a relatively short period of time. A traumatic experience is more extreme in that it overwhelms your capacity to cope with a given situation, causing your nervous system to be thrown out of balance.
Trauma can be isolated to a single event or it can be chronic in nature. Each person is affected differently by traumatic events. This is what makes it so challenging to deal with effectively. Each individual reacts differently to different treatment modalities. Being a christian, I believe that along with traditional treatment modalities, bringing a spiritual element into treating those traumatized is a beneficial thing. Even if they oppose Christianity, the spiritual effects can be a calming presence.
Various diseases have their causes deeply embedded with emotional trauma. Current research indicates that trauma may be at the the root of a broad spectrum, of problems. When trauma goes untreated, it can impact all aspects of a person, manifesting as a variety of different symptoms that may obviously, or not so obviously, relate to the initial trauma. It affects the body by decreasing a sense of trust and safety…which increases fear and worry. Common symptoms include a racing heart, hyper-vigilance, exaggerated startle response, sleep difficulties, headaches, increased stress, change in appetite, low energy, and sexual dysfunction. We all know that under stress, especially chronic stress, damaging toxins are released into the body, thereby increasing the chances for further illness. These toxins promote illness such as cancer, along with a variety of problems.
If you want to promote optimal health…you must Empower yourself to overcome trauma. You may not be able to accomplish this on your own…that is acceptable. Getting the appropriate professional involved with greatly improve your chances of success….It will make you feel Empowered…
