The benefits of exercise are staggering. If you think you can put yourself in the best position health-wise without exercise, you are fooling yourself. Exercise will help you:
*Lose body fat
*Gain lean muscle mass
*Maintain the muscle mass you have developed
*Improve your sleep
*Lower your risk of diseases such as; cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes
*Decrease your daily stress level
*Increase your level of concentration and overall brain function
*Improve your self-esteem.
The best exercise program includes a mix of aerobic and anaerobic activities.
Aerobic exercise consists of some sort of cardiovascular training for a minimum of 20-30″. It has been recommended by experts that you perform this type of exercise at least 3X per week. I recommend that you perform aerobic exercise at least 5X per week. There has been an old saying in the fitness industry regarding cardio…“3X per week for fitness…5X per week for fatness”. I live and believe that principal. This does not have to consist of running, taking an aerobics class, or some high level training session. This can amount to taking a brisk walk with your dog every morning for 20-30″ Your dog will love it too! Of course, ramping up the cardio in some form of more intense training as time goes on will improve your physical fitness, but start easy. Consistency if of utmost importance.
Anaerobic exercise would include activities such as weight training, calisthenics, or hard physical work. Ppersonally, I weight train 5-6 days a week. I vary the routines over time as your body gets used to a certain style and level of training. It is important to vary your training to shock the muscles. I also perform a lot of P90X routines. Tony Horton is fantastic in his training regimens. He believes in the philosophy of “muscle confusion”. I agree…it works!
So, why would you want to exercise? Why would you want to change your lifestyle? do you really want to Empower yourself? Sometimes staying in our own “couch potato” lifestyle is great…but are you ready for the challenge? Are you ready to Empower your health?
