Leadership and Your Greatest Fear

Now this is a touchy subject.   Hmmm…your greatest fear.  The very thought of someone probing into your deepest, inner thoughts can makes ones stomach twist and turn.

Do you know that statistics have shown that our worst fear is of public speaking?  Yes, that is it, the worst fear.  But you want to be a leader and leaders need to be able speak in public.   So you must overcome this fear.  Depending on your personality, you may need someone who can be objective with clarity…someone who is not only accurate with professional criticism, but kind to a point that your confidence grows.

That someone is your “Mentor”.  Good mentoring includes a simple model of growth:

I do – YOU watch

I do – YOU help

YOU do – I help

YOU do – I watch

True leadership embraces this simple concept…”A great leader is unafraid to mentor someone to a point wherein the mentee does not need the leader’s help anymore.”  A leader’s greatest asset lies in the ability to create the environment for learning.  When you can partner up with a leader of that caliber, you can become unstoppable. You can “push-through” your fears and be empowered.
