Leadership Demands Accountability…Do You Have What It Takes?

We all look up to leaders.  Some of you might want to emulate them.  Others might revile them, but we all look up to them in one way or another.  True leadership entails having a number of specific qualities such as being strong, authentic, confident, unselfish, and loving.

These are all key points.  There is one other quality that I believe is vital to great leadership.  It is not ever giving up.  It is always “pushing through” to completion without fail no matter the end result.  It is not giving up on yourself, but more importantly…not giving up on others.  I think this is one area we all could use some improvement.

How many times have you had a team of networkers not hitting the finish line?  Maybe you were one of those who did not finish?  How did you feel when one of your team either quit or just stopped working?  How did you feel when you quit?  It is uncomfortable to think about our own mistakes, but we need to face them directly and learn from them.  Recently, I was at an amazing event called the Unstoppable Entrepreneur that was masterminded by Jonathan Budd.  One of the many things that I learned was that true leadership…true authentic leadership, includes the ability to make the necessary changes to ones perception of others…to never quit on them.

Now, I am not saying that you should manage them.  You should never manage others, especially those in your down-line.  This is crucial to your own success.  You must lead by example, train and support…but never ever manage.  Being an authentic leader is crucial to empowering your way of life.  When you incorporate these simple principles into your daily life, you become unstoppable and others will want to follow you personally as well as professionally.

The next time you look at a leader, look for those qualities that you think makes them great.  Look to see if they give up on themselves or those around them.  Look for signs of their authenticity.  Are you an authentic leader?  Are you unstoppable?

To Your Success…

Totally agree with what you’re saying here especially the part about Leaders leading and not managing. Many times those who come out of the corporate world and go it self employment are used to someone managing them but in reality – we are our own bosses and we have to get used to that. It isn’t always easy. I can’t count the times I’ve basically said, “I’m here for you when you’re ready” and stepped back from a team mate for whatever reason. It is hard as an upline to do that because we care so much about our teammates but we cannot do it for them. You have to step into your own ownership and own power over your business and no one else can do that for you.

Thanks VaNessa…I like your comment about stepping back. It is difficult to do, but we sometimes have to do it…Thanks so much!
