Timeline for Facebook was first introduced a few months ago.  Until recently, it was only available in beta test format so most people were still using the original Facebook profile format for personal pages.  Now, Timeline is available for everyone and very soon all profiles will switch over to Timeline whether you like it or not.  The advantage to making the change now is that you have control over the content that will be available to the public.  If you wait until the switch is automatic, depending on how you use Facebook, you could be in for some embarrassing moments…get my drift?

First off, you should verify your Facebook account with your mobile phone number before you setup Facebook Timeline…if you have not already done so, do it now.

Step 1: Log into your Facebook.  Then, visit the “Facebook Developer Page”.

Step 2: Click on “Create New App” button.  Enter the App Display Name and App Namespace.  You can enter anything.  Check the box where it says “I agree to the Platform Privacy Policy”.  Click the “Continue” and move onto the next screen.

Step 3:  Now you will see a screen that shows the basics of the app.  Don’t do anything other than to click on the “Open Graph” link that you will see in the left sidebar.

Step 4:  Here, you will define an action and an object for your app.  You can fill in anything.  Once you have completed this, click the “Get Started” button.

Step 5:  Next you will see this screen…and do not worry about all the techy stuff.  You can ignore that.  Just leave everything blank…click on “Save Changes” and “Next” button.

Step 6:  Next you will be presented a screen that appears to be the same as the last step.  The only difference between steps 5 & 6 is that in step 5 you will see high-lighted a dark blue box that says “Edit Your Action Type”.  Step 6 has the same type of dark blue box that says “Edit Your Object Type”.  Just leave everything blank and click on the “Save Changes” and the “Next” button.

Step 7:  Next you will be on the “Create an Aggregation” tab.  Just click on the “Save” and “Finish” buttons.

Step 8:  Now, you will see the page below…

Give it a little time to set up and then go to your Facebook home page.  Once you get back to your Facebook personal age, you will see a “Developer Release” dialogue box…go ahead and click on the “Get It Now”.  Voila…Welcome to Facebook Timeline!  Congratulations…you are done.

If you friends have not switched to Timeline, encourage them to do so as they will continue to see your old Facebook profile until they set up Timeline, or Facebook does it for them by default.  Happy Facebooking!
