About The Empowered Entrepreneurial Magnets

For the first ten years of my career I was in the medical field as a critical care nurse and a cardiovascular perfusionist.  From the academic arena to real world situations, the medical profession sharpened my ability to handle critical situations under pressure.  Being a perfusionist taught me the importance of teamwork while being an integral part of the heart surgery team.  Being a critical care nurse allowed me to learn the value of being able to communicate intuitively with patients.  This intuitiveness has given me the ability to excel in the business world.  It taught me the value of being sensitive to the needs of others…to put their needs in front of my own needs…a very humbling and empowering lesson  These are lessons of such enormous value that they can never be supplanted.

As my career path evolved into the business world, not only could I bring those experiences into my persona, I saw a need to spread information…real information for real situations.  A close friend of mine began to mentor me in aspects of blogging.  He has given me incredible insight into how a blog should be developed…how to focus my passion for helping mentor people to becoming successful entrepreneurs.  This passion for mentoring others began when I was a young child and continues today.  It is not about me, but rather those who have influenced my life.

Fitness training is an undeniable passion of mine as good health is an essential element of success.  How we manage our lifestyle from diet to exercise has a direct effect on our ability to perform at a high level.  Our health gives us the ability to “push through”.  My fitness training has spanned over 30 years.  It has included weight & endurance training, martial arts, yoga, skiing, and aerobic sports.  Proper diet is an integral part of my lifestyle.   This includes “juicing” with different fruits and veggies on a daily basis.  I believe that we “are what we eat”.

The passion does not stop with diet and exercise.  Charity is one of the greatest attributes that we can incorporate into our lives.  Being an active participant in a charitable organization brings home the “human element”.  When you invest of your time to help others…the greatest winner is yourself.  I have had the humbling experience of working with homeless children.  When you see the pain and suffering that is in their eyes, you realize that no matter what challenges you face, they are minor in comparison to what these children experience on a daily basis just hoping to have a meal.

From feeding homeless kids to acting as one of the volunteer chairpersons for the JT-Shriners Open PGA Golf Tournament, annually held in Las Vegas, my passion has been to promote the health and well-being of children. Now, I have taken on my biggest challenge yet…to actively support and fund-raise for Shared Hope International, a non-profit organization founded by Linda Smith, a former sitting US Congresswoman from Washington.  Its mission is quite simple…”Leading a worldwide effort to eradicate sexual slavery… one life at a time.”   I challenge each of you to find out what you are passionate about.  Find some way to give back to society…make that commitment. Become an Empowered Entrepreneurial Magnet.

Working in the healthcare field for many years has given me an appreciation for some of the challenges facing our population today. Although my experience has been primarily in managing health information, I have always had a longing to help others less fortunate than myself.

After many years of auditing medical records, data collection, and analysis, I realized that behind the numbers are real people with real problems.  In an effort to shake things up a little, I returned to school and completed a Masters Degree in Public Health.  In addition to experiencing a love/hate relationship with my professors, I learned valuable information about the need for services in our communities and the enormous role that is played by volunteers.

One specific charity which has stirred my volunteer spirit is Shared Hope International.  The mission of this organization is to eradicate the ever growing problem of sex trafficking of children.  Despite the enormity of this problem, the individuals at Shared Hope International are continually developing and implementing strategies to combat this crisis.

In the old days “self-help” courses and books were everywhere and I ate them up like candy.  One of my favorite books is entitled “Living Above the Level of Mediocrity” by Chuck Swindoll because it encourages us to stand tall for what we believe, dream big, and lift others up.  After reading this book, I was inspired to train for a marathon even though the farthest I had ever run was three miles. I discovered that running 26.2 miles can be achieved like any other goal….one step (mile) at a time.  Several months later I found myself hyperventilating with emotion as I crossed the finish line of the St. George Marathon.  What a great feeling! I was not even close to the winning time, but for me it was the hardest and most rewarding accomplishment I had ever experienced! It taught me that I could do anything in life as long as I believe in myself, put in the time and stick with it!

I love the outdoors, especially the mountains and the ocean.  The fresh air is invigorating and always cleans out the cobwebs in my brain! I believe that we are placed on this earth for a reason and it is up to each of us to discover how the gifts we have been given can be best used to serve others. Not only can we make this world a better place to live while we are here, we will experience better health, happiness and peace in our own lives…important elements of being an Empowered Entrepreneurial Magnet.
