Jump Start the Day the “Green Smoothie” Way

Green Smoothie_ImageParents!  What is green, tastes great and will jump start your child’s day in an extremely healthy way?  I know what you are thinking, or rather what your child might think.  There is nothing green that is going to taste any better than freshly washed raw spinach, right?  Wrong!  Hang with me here…

Have you heard about the latest craze in smoothies?  They are “Green Smoothies” and wow are they good!  I am sure that you have enjoyed one of those pricey drinks that are packed full of sugar, better known as “Naked Juice”, right?  Maybe you got one for your child and then about an hour later you were totally regretting that purchase, as your child was hyper as all get out from the sugar high.

“Green Smoothies” are very different.  They are simple to make, no added sugar and are packed full of more nutrition than you can get from eating salad three times a day.  Do I have your attention now?  I am going to include one simple recipe for one of my favorite “Green Smoothies”.  Before I do that, I will give you some tips to having success with “Green Smoothies”.

Vitamix_ImageTo make your “Green Smoothie” experience simple and optimize the healthy aspects, you want a good quality blender, preferably a Vitamix.  You can use other brands of blenders but the Vitamix has stood the test of time.  It is a workhorse and blends everything into a nice creamy texture.  I highly recommend that you go organic as much as possible.  Organic fruits and vegetables typically have a much higher level of nutrients than conventionally grown produce so your “Green Smoothies” will pack the punch that your kids need to fuel their bodies.

Now I know that you have been waiting for the good stuff, so here is one of my favorite recipes:

Strawberry Delight

  • 6 Leaves of Romaine Lettuce
  • 6 Leaves of Kale
  • 1 Lime
  • 2 Sprigs of fresh Mint
  • 1 Cup of Strawberries (fresh or frozen…I use frozen)
  • 1 Banana
  • 1 Pear
  • 2 Cups of water

Blend this up until you have the texture that you like.  It will make about 1 quart of “Green Smoothie”.  I drink at least one quart each day.  It is a super way for your kids to get a very high level of nutrition, and the best part moms and dads is that by getting your kids on the “Green Smoothie” train you will help them avoid a lot of the bugs that go around school.  Here is why, this is a drink that will change your system to more of an alkaline pH.  Most diseases such as viruses, cancer, diabetes and other problems such as obesity have their roots in a diet that promotes an acid pH in the body. I am not talking about what you think might be acidic in nature…I am talking about what the end result is at the cellular level.  Here is a hint: sugar and its artificial substitutes are some of the worst culprits for these problems.  I would suggest that you purchase a copy of Victoria Boutenko’s book “Green For Life”.  Get it and be inspired!  Be energized the “Green Smoothie” way!

I am like @twitter-22709289:disqus. I love smoothies most at breakfast…but I would have never thought of including kale. I usually use spinach because it’s so easy to blend. My Ninja does such a great job of blending fruit and veg. Yu make me want to pull it out again and use it. It’s been WEEKS since I smoothed or juiced! Thank you so much for the great recipe and reminder, Martin!

Christi…getting your body alkaline is a huge key in avoiding disease and staying healthy. I have many more recipes. For those who opt in on my list, they are getting a new one each week for 12 weeks.
